Last Saturday morning, I went on my first good bike ride of the summer!
A little late to the party, I know…it seems like every weekend morning has had something penciled in already, or by the time I think about going for a ride it’s either raining or a bazillion degrees out and I decide to pass.
But a couple of weeks ago, I got a wireless odometer put on my bike and I decided to take it out for a spin! Even though we’re in the heat of summer, I made sure to get up and out of the house early enough to beat the heat!
Just cruising around downtown and I already logged over 2 miles!
I rode through a couple of local parks…where a lady complimented me on my helmet and my sneakers and told me I looked like a professional. Hahaha! She was sweet but obviously didn’t know what she was talking about.
And then I stopped off at Luther Burbank Home and Gardens. I hadn’t been inside this historical garden since elementary school!
I parked and locked up my bike outside of the gate, since they don’t allow you to ride your bike inside the garden.
So many gorgeous trees and flowers…
I will definitely be coming back when I get my camera back from the camera hospital! Maybe with a picnic lunch and a good book, too!
After I left the garden, I took off down a bike trail that goes west from downtown, along Santa Rosa Creek. There are some cool murals along the path, and people were out riding bikes or strolling with dogs or kids. I ended up riding a little over 10 miles in total…a great first ride on the new bike!
I’ll be definitely going out again soon…this time with some new bike shorts! I feel like I can ride a good deal farther if I have a little extra padding.
I never thought I’d be saying I need more padding!

How about you? Are there any good bike trails or gardens that you like to frequent? Even better if they’re in northern California so I can check them out too!
