Smushy Juicy Mess

September 21, 2011 · 2 comments

Just stopping in for a quick update on my Foodsaver frozen strawberry experiment…you know, when I washed and cut up some fresh local strawberries, sealed them with the Foodsaver and froze them hoping that they’d defrost okay and I’d have strawberries for my cereal this winter.

Well, needless to say…it was a major FAIL.

The berries came out all mushy and rotten looking.

And the bag, once defrosted, was like half full of strawberry juice.

Wah!!!

Sad smile

The Foodsaver is great for shrink-wrapping and freezing other things…like chicken breasts and fish and other freezable things. I guess strawberries isn’t one of those things, sadly.

Better luck next time! I guess I’ll be eating frozen blueberries from TJ’s in my cereal and oatmeal come winter…

How about you? Are you going to miss the bounty of summer fruit when fall rolls around? What will you miss the most?

And remember how my friend Michele said that putting some parchment paper over the ice cream before you put the lid on will keep it from forming those annoying icicles? I tried it. And….it didn’t [...]

The Worst Thing About Ice Cream

Or maybe it’s just the worst thing about my freezer…freezer burn!! You know those disgusting ice crystals that turn your delicious, creamy ice cream into foamy, gummy goop? I’ve wasted whole cartons of ice cream because of stupid freezer burn! That is, until my great friend Michele commented on one of my posts a while [...]
