Children’s Shopping Spree

August 13, 2011 · 0 comments

I’ve experienced some pretty early mornings in my time…but getting up this morning at 4:30am was for the best cause by far! Today was our annual Active 20-30 Children’s Shopping Spree…my first one! I‘ve been looking forward to this day for the better part of 9 months!

Here I am with my friend Nicole…don’t we look bright eyed and bushy tailed for such an early wake-up call?

The answer of course is Yes!

All year long we raise money for underprivileged kids in our community, and this is the big event where we give a ton of it away. Each child that attends the shopping spree gets $150 for clothes, a backpack filled to the brim with school supplies, a haircut, breakfast for their whole family, and some play time in our jumpee house! This year, we also got some toiletries and some Birkenstock sandals donated for the kids.

I got to shop with a great teenage girl who getting ready to start her freshman year of high school. After we got her some new jeans, shirts and shoes for the new school year, I wandered around and took some pictures of some other kids on their shopping sprees.

I was so touched and inspired and just EXCITED to be there…the event lived up to what it was hyped up to be, and more. I can’t wait to start raising money for next year’s spree…and we’ll be able to take even more kids than the 75+ we took this year.

If you ever get the chance to participate in an event like this, I highly recommend it! I also want to give a special shout out to my aunt Suzie who drove from her home 2 hours away to take a child shopping this morning! Love ya Suze!

How about you? Have you ever participated in an event that benefits underprivileged kids?
