DIY Crafty Camera Strap

If you read my post about my DIY camera purse bag, you know I’ve been on a photography-themed craft kick lately!

It hasn’t stopped yet.

I was so friggin’ impressed with myself after I finished my new camera bag, that I decided to keep the ball rolling and do another DIY version of a camera accessory I’ve been drooling over…the fun handmade and/or fabric covered camera strap! I’ve seen them all over Etsy, and I thought, “Yeah! Why have a boring black nylon camera strap when you can have something so much more fun?”

And after I made my camera bag, I thought, “Why pay $25-$30 for a fun camera strap when I can just cover my own?”

And so I did.

Now, I have another disclaimer on this one…you can’t make fun of my white thread. Or my crooked seams. I’m a BEGINNER, OKAY? And I don’t know how to change the thread on the sewing machine. And Mom was busy.

But other than that little detail, it was pretty easy….I measured my camera strap, and then cut two strips of fabric slightly longer and wider. Then I used an iron and a seam guage to turn the edges of the strip under so the fabric wouldn’t fray and the raw edges wouldn’t show.

Then I sewed it to my camera strap. Easy peasy!

It’s double-sided too….fancy, I know. ;)

All done and ready for action!

Next up? Crafting a light box from the foam-core board and muslin fabric I have stowed in my parents spare room closet!
