For the first time in a long time, I’m actually getting my weigh-in post up on the day I weighed in! That’s progress, haha.
Here are the stats for this week’s weigh-in:
Starting weight: 283.0 pounds
Week 38 weight: 229.0 pounds
Today’s weight: 229.5 pounds
Gain this week of: 0.5 pounds
Total weight loss to date: 53.5 pounds
Grr…a gain of a half a pound. It’s not terrible, but it’s not a loss.
When I ponder my weight loss record for the last few months, I’m reminded of a concept I learned back in economics class….”opportunity cost”. It’s not that I’ve gained the weight back or have lost any ground in my weight loss journey, really…it’s just that every week I don’t do the work and put in the effort is another opportunity to lose a few pounds that I’m not taking advantage of. Does that make sense? It goes back to what I said about my weigh-in last week…when I look back at my old weight loss goals and the dates I had set, I see that I’m far “behind schedule”.
I could be another 50 pounds lighter if I was as gung-ho now as I was in the beginning.
So, what am I going to do about it?
Mom joined Weight Watchers this week, and I thought about joining with her but then decided against it. Weight Watchers is a great program and has helped a lot of people lost the weight, but for me I think counting calories and wearing my Bodybugg is the way to go. I like the idea of counting calories instead of “points”…I know my calorie range and I won’t have to be consistently converting things into Weight Watchers points and then tracking those. Counting calories in and calories out is how I lost the first 50-something pounds, and it’s how I’ll lose the rest.
Maybe I’ll take the $40 per month that I would have spent on a Weight Watchers membership and put it in some sort of “new clothes fund” or something. Especially since I’ll need some new jeans soon!
